ENDING THE CRIME OF PROHIBITIONCIA does not campaign for the legalisation of Cannabis but rather to raise peoples awareness about the crime of Prohibition. This crime is being committed on a daily basis by governments worldwide. So how can we end the crime of Cannabis prohibition ? If one listens to the rhetoric of Government their position is clear, they have absolutely no intent to change the law whatsoever. There are many political reasons for this but the underlying reasons are to do with money and control. So if the Government won't change the law, how can we make it happen ?
A similar situation as we are in now was facing America during alcohol prohibition in the 1920's. Alcohol prohibition set up the mafia and organised crime syndicates. One on the problems with prohibition is that it breeds corruption. The government of the time were so corruptly involved with the mafia, that there was no political will to end prohibition. The way alcohol prohibition ended was through the courts. During the last four years of alcohol prohibition over half the cases were ending up with not guilty or hung verdicts. This was even for cases were people were being caught red handed selling alcohol. Eventually the police stopped prosecuting people, because they new that it was unlikely that juries would find them guilty. The fight of the jury to overturn unjust laws, by returning the verdict of "Not Guilty' is a long established right. One of the most famous landmark cases to establish this fact was that of Penn and Mead. Penn and Mead were arrested for preaching to an 'unlawful assembly' in Gracechurch Street in 1670, but persuaded the jury to find them 'Not Guilty'. The judge fined and imprisoned the jury for two days without food, for returning their 'Not Guilty' verdict. This was overturned by Chief Justice Vaughan who established the Right of Juries to give their verdict according to their conviction. This is already starting to happen with Cannabis cases in Britain, especially when a defence of 'medical necessity' is being presented. Colin Davies, founder of the Medical Marijuana Cooperative, which supplies Cannabis to medical users has been found "Not Guilty~ on two occasions. If you are ever on a jury in a Cannabis case, remember it is your duty to overturn unjust laws. Please copy this leaflet and pass it onto as many people as you can. If you are ever arrested for possessing or cultivating Cannabis, remember that prohibition only functions with your cooperation. Refuse to accept cautions and ask for a 'trial by jury'.
